RadioBox - ShoutCast Radio Playert

The team at SymfoniP love media in all its various facets and we have covered just about all possible variations of Audio plugins for RapidWeaver for over three years ever since the first release of the Stacks Plugin from Yourhead. Something that has not really been tackled has been integrating streaming radio stations to your RapidWeaver powered web site until now.

RadioBox our latest Stack element aims to address this with a simple clean HTML5 (Flash were required) Player and integrated ‘channel’ list for your ShoutCast Radio streams.

If you are building or managing a site for your local or community radio station and they have already have a ShoutCast mp3 stream already setup then you can use this new Stack to manage
- ‘channels’ via a dynamic Google Spreadsheet list, effectively a ShoutCast stream!
- Artwork for each ‘channel’
- Native MP3 HTML5 Audio (kind to your iDevices) and automatic Flash Player playback

No coding experience is required to create the actual player itself and we have already provided a sample setup already built into the RadioBox Stack configuration . Sample channels and information on what you need to do to create the channel/stream list for the player is covered in our User Guide.

RadioBox Channels

Features:

  • No PHP required
  • integrated mp3 Shoutcast stream player and ‘channel’ list
  • manage a channel list in a Google Doc (spreadsheet), changes made in the document update the channel list. You can also share the document with other editors or your clients.
  • Automatic HTML5 /Flash Playback
  • support images in the player (can be for each channel/stream )
  • playback support in Firefox, IE9, IE8, Safari, Chrome, IOS

Requirements

  • A ShoutCast radio stream
  • A public (that is published to the web) Google doc matching the format we describe in our User Guide for the channel list
  • channel artwork is optional but can be anywhere public on your website or even in public Dropbox folder

Limitations

  • only one RadioBox stack in a page for now
  • no mixing in the same page with other MusicBoxes or our other Audio players
  • RadioBox will not show you what track(title information) is playing during the stream playback

Demo Page

check out our live demo page to see the RadioBox in action with three Radio Stations

Support exceptions

Out-with standard support in resolving defects on actual code. Given the varied setup and time consuming nature of Shoutcast itself, this is why we include a sample setup already ! , if you need personal assistance in discovering your Shoutcast mp3 stream or wish support in getting the player working with your Shoutcast service provider you can purchase a suppport pack directly from our Support Site.

MusicBox Store PlayList

Taking a sprinkling of the same magic used in our other MusicBox stacks we now present MusicBox Store edition.

After the great reception of MusicBox we had been asked if we could make a playlist but, also allow for links back to your own Amazon or iTunes listed album pages. We took the opportunity to make a few changes along the way to make this all possible in this new Stack element that integrates a playlist, audio player and additional link buttons. However, the killer feature is that this is all controlled and managed from a simple Google Doc (spreadsheet) so you can make changes on the fly without a republish!

Perfect for displaying track samples whether you are a in a band, musician, voice-artist or just want to show off those audio tracks with friends and family.

No coding experience is required all you need to follow are these three easy steps that we cover in more detail with our User Guide.

  • setup a simple list in a Google Docs to your media, artwork and store links
  • Publish your Google document
  • Add the MusicBox Store Stack element to your page with your document key
MusicBox and Tracks

Features:

  • No PHP required
  • integrated mp3 player and playlist
  • create a list in a Google Doc (spreadsheet), changes made in the document update the player track list. You can also share the document with other editors or your clients.
  • support images in the player (can be for each track if you like)
  • Add links to your Amazon, iTunes purchase page
  • additional support for links to CartLoom digital products, a very nice shopping cart made by YabDab
  • looks and plays great in Firefox, Safari, iPad and iPhone

Requirements

  • A public (published) Google doc matching the format we describe in our User Guide
  • MP3 tracks need to be public on the web, if it cannot be opened in a standalone browser window then the player will work correctly.

Limitations

  • only one musicbox store-playlist stack in a page for now
  • no mixing in the same page with other MusicBoxes

MusicBox

MusicBox is the first in a series of powerful new stack elements that allow you to create a powerful mp3 (HTML5) audio playlist.

The first two editions off the SymfoniP production line allow you to create a dynamic playlist and control that remotely from a Google Spreadsheet Document, or from a text list maintained on DropBox .

You can then share, have other collaborators or your clients editing, adding to the MusicBox playlist dynamically without touching your RapidWeaver project again. We like to think of these as Audio Stacks with some extra CMS enabled sauce.

MusicBox is perfect for providing audio portfolio samples whether you are a

  • musician
  • voice artist
  • want to share audio with other visitors to your site, a podcast list for example
  • building a band web site

Key Features

  • create an audio player with playlist without any coding know-how
  • no more republishing of audio files (yes it can be a pain) in your RapidWeaver project , saving you time in publishing and editing
  • playlist file generation is dynamic
  • enable downloads of an audio track ( optional per track configuration , see relevant User Guide for the Gdoc or drop(box)list editions)
  • Plays great on iPad in HTML5 mode and even supports Flash playback for those browsers that do not play nice with HTML5. This is all automatic in MusicBox!
  • Color configuration for background and track text elements in a single MusicBox stack
  • multiple MusicBoxes are supported in the same Stacks page as shown in our demo site

Requirements

  • PHP 5.x server support
  • Stacks Plugin Supported Versions 1.4.x or 2.x
  • Audio tracks already encoded as mp3, 128Kbs fixed rate provides the best results , remember this is the web we are talking about
  • playlist configuration file needs to be publicly accessible for MusicBox to access it
  • of course a Google Spreadsheet … we talk about that setup in our User Guide too. A public DropBox text file, or even a public file that is maintained on your web server.
